What's going on in America and more specifically in the DMV area? It seems that violence has been taken to a whole new level these days. Killing without a conscious is becoming a common theme now a days and nobody is exempt. I mean DC has been known for violence and murder for years and even had the dubious title of the "murder capital" in the late 80's early 90's during the time of the crack epidemic. A majority of these murders were due to turf wars, contracted kills, deals gone bad and robberies. Basically if you were in "the game" you knew that there were certain risks in the streets and if you caught one that's just how it was. You occasionally had a few innocents that caught a stray bullet or people who were thought to be snitches went down.
Back to 2009 we find ourselves in a time where driving a car, walking down the street or going out to a family restaurant can get you killed if you are not careful.
Three examples come to mind which happened over the last 2 weeks in Maryland and DC.
- A married couple driving home on Central Avenue cuts a car off (something we have all done in our lives) which seems to be a pretty normal event. At the next red light the car that was cut off pulls up to the first car with the couple and angry words are exchanged. The light turns green and the second car opens fire at the couple and the husband is killed right next to the wife. How do these people know that kids were not in the car? Now the wife can only think "what would life be like if we only stayed home that night?"
- Some teens are walking down the street on Minnesota Ave, NE around 11pm. A car approaches the kids and the occupants start asking a rack of questions and talking shyt. The kids try to cross the street to get away from the car but unfortunately the car opens fire and a 14 year old kid is shot and killed. From all accounts this kid was a church going youth and even had plans on becoming a preacher. The group was going to another friends house to spend the night.
- Last Saturday night at the BLVD in Largo, MD a place that has shopping, movies, restaurants and even a Chuck E. Cheeses for the kids. This places is usually packed on weekends and in the summer even has live jazz in the courtyard area. Lavar Arringon owns a restaurant here called "Sidelines" which has a bar and food area. This particular night some patrons ended up having heated words inside which spilled outside of the building. Needless to say a car opend fire on a group near the entrance wounding 6 and killing 1 male 35 yrs old from Bowie. Once again don't really know all the details but I do know that some dude whent out for drinks in a family restuarant and did not make it home.
So I ask you DLR: is it society's fault? The fault of the police force? Politicians? Gun laws? Not enough parenting? Or has the value of human life dipped so low that these events are just acceptable?
Let us know you thoughts or concerns.

I don't know about the first two situations but the joint at Lavar's I saw coming a mile away. Once you put a go-go in the joint its a done deal. Love my go-go like everyone else but we all know it brings a different element to the situation.
Shyt.... didn't know about the go-go being there dog.... hell jyea, that adds a twist for real... LU speakin' real talk there. Any venue that has opened in the area that started out with high standards for the men(come fresh to death) and then starts to fall off (come as you are) brings the youngins and hotheads and the criminal element(LOVE nightclub, LAVAR'S). Such a goddamn shame that the youngins don't have any appreciation for LIFE. BE THANKFUL TO WAKE UP..... SHYT AIN'T GUARANTEED TOMORROW...... WAKE UP BLACK FOLK!!!!! Someone break into your house, that's one thing, but any other situation(using the heat)..... you's just a soft azz coward azz nukka. KARMA......
Like I was telling someone last week, I DONT ARGUE WITH ANYONE I DONT KNOW! Nobody wants to fight anymore, everybody wants to go to the car to grab a gun nowadays. I'll gladly be a punk, I'm trying to live to play with my grand kid's one day.
Great topic, LU
I concur, excellent topic 2 touch base on...
I'd have 2 agree with Floyd, there are a lot of sucka-types out there that'll do such if even something as small as a heated argument. Can't say that the gun laws are a big help either. I believe it's a younger generation lookin' 4 direction & being schooled or brought up by the wrong mofo's...
reminds me of the other day, I was at Golden Corral @ BLVD, my lady & I were out 4 lunch mid-day. Now, if you're ever at a buffet mid-day you'll come 2 find that there's an awful lot of seniors out. N e hooo, my young'n notices a chick who was sitting n the corner of restaurant with a young man gets up & moves 2 another table closer 2 where we were eating. The guy gets up & follows her 2 table w/ a few choice words 2 follow. Now, if you can imagine if you're eating w/someone & that someone getting up & walking 2 another table you'd have to either smack when u eat or just a asshole altogether. Well, dude decides that he's gonna curse her out right there; in the midst of all these folks who could damn well be his grandparents. After callin' youngin' e'rything but her name he decides 2 say "I don't give a fuck if I embarass you & I don't care who sees me" chick mumbles somethin'...He replies, oh yeah I got somethin' for you when we get home".
It's shit like such that I just don't understand & due to the latest @ the BLVD. I'm certain WoW wings are gonna stop having Live Bands perform there now...I'm only up BLVD. 4 5 guys/Qdoba's/Golden Corral because I've realized long ago that shit's becoming a revised Landover Mall! Bitches 2 gawk at & Goons
