ONE STEP CLOSER TO HOME

(AP) Michael Vick is back in Atlanta, the city where he rose to NFL stardom.

After a brief stay in the federal prison in Petersburg, Va., Vick was in the penitentiary in Atlanta on Friday.

Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Felicia Ponce could not say whether Vick is heading back to the federal lockup in Leavenworth, Kan., to await his transfer to home confinement and eventual release. However, the bureau's Web site says the Atlanta prison has a detention center for inmates who are being moved.

Vick's lawyers did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

The suspended quarterback was brought to Virginia last week to testify at his bankruptcy hearing in Newport News. He's serving a 23-month sentence for a dogfighting conspiracy.
